Food Safety
-
The safety and wellness of our staff and students are priorities in Lindbergh Schools. The guidelines below are applied in all schools to help us balance classroom celebrations with our obligation to protect children from food allergens and uphold the district’s commitment to health and wellness.
- There will be no individual student celebrations that include food. This includes personal celebrations such as birthdays. Please scroll down for a list of non-food celebration ideas.
- If food use is essential as part of the curriculum, teachers will alert students and parents/guardians through classroom communication. Teachers will make alternative lesson plans if a student with a known food allergy could be adversely impacted.
- Courses that include food preparation or consumption as a regular part of the curriculum are exempt from this provision, but instructors in these courses have an increased responsibility to monitor student adherence to prevention procedures.
- Classroom celebrations will not include food or drink brought in from outside of Lindbergh Schools. Food can be purchased for classroom celebrations through the District Food Service Provider.
- Schoolwide classroom celebrations will be limited to 2 snacks and 1 drink. There will be celebrations during Fall, Winter, and Spring. Snacks and drinks at these celebrations must meet Smart Snack standards. Individual classroom celebrations should be limited to 1 per trimester and approved by the building principal.
